From the badlands of deepest Brunswick comes Hobson’s choice – a tight trio of remarkable musicians who have been plucking their way through many of Melbourne’s best loved bands including Vulgargrad, Blue Grassy Knoll, Ennio Morricone Experience, Cosmo Cossmolina, and Devil Goat Family String Band.
They play a style of bluegrass and old-timey music that has evolved from porches, campfires, and kitchens of Appalachia.
Featuring Nara Demasson on steel string guitar, Gus Macmillan on banjo and Dan Witton on upright bass, these three draw on a wide range of influences including Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Bob Wills, Merle Travis, John Hartford and early Andrew Bird.
They have played pubs all over Melbourne, including supports for Charlie Parr (USA) at the Northcote Social Club, residencies at The Gem in Collingwood, The Edinburgh Castle, and Wesley Anne, and festivals including the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Woodford Folk Festival.
