Pedestrian struck, gas line ruptured
Police aren’t expecting any charges after a motorist struck a pedestrian and ruptured a gas line Sunday morning.
Belleville police report emergency responders were called to a North Front Street restaurant just before 10:30 a.m. after a vegicle was driven over a parking curb, struck a pedestrian and hit a natural gas line, causing it to leak.
The restaurant and a nearby gas station were evacuated and the area was shut down until Union Gas could attend the scene and repair the leak.
“The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was taken to Belleville General Hospital for observation. No charges are anticipated at this point in the investigation,” police stated in a media release.
A 34-year-old city man has been charged following a shoplifting incident at a north end retail store, police report.
Officers were called to the store Sunday morning for reports of a man removing tags from merchandise prior to placing it in his bag. Store security had the man in custody when police arrived and he was charged with theft under $5,000. The man, Jeremy Way, was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled for a July court date.
A 53-year-old city man has been charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident following an incident Sunday afternoon.
City police received reports of a truck striking a hydro pole and leaving the scene in the downtown core at approximately 4 p.m. Police located the vehicle and its driver in the city’s west end a short time later. Timothy Young was taken to the police station and it was determined his blood-alcohol level was in excess of the legal limit.
As a result, Young was charged and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Stolen vehicle in quarry
QUINTE WEST — Sunday afternoon officers frm the Quinte West detachment of the OPP and members of the provincial force’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit responded to reports of a vehicle submerged in a quarry off McCauley Road.
The 2013 Kia Sorento, with Ontario licence plates BZTV 621, had been reported stolen earlier in the day from an Ontario Street home.

Public intoxication, assaulting officer
QUINTE WEST — A 34-year-old Brockville man has been charged following an incident Sunday evening.
Just after 7 p.m. officers from the local OPP detachment, along with Quinte West firefighters, responded to a report of a medical call for service involving a man slumped over a park bench on Old Highway 2 in Quinte West. Further investigation by officers found the man was intoxicated.
Trevor Stephen James Monether was arrested for public intoxication under the Liquor Licence Act. While in custody, he was also charged with mischief under $5,000 and assaulting a police officer.
He was held for a bail hearing.
QUINTE WEST — A 49-year-old Quinte West man has died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon in Trenton.
It happened at about 1:30 p.m. on West Street, Quinte West OPP stated in a press release.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his name was withheld pending notification of his family.
